This substantial 3 troy oz. 999 pure fine silver round is in excellent uncirculated/proof condition with brilliant luster. The “One Quarter Pound” stamp refers to troy ounce weight, lest you think it should be 4 oz standard weight. Note that the coin is bullion from a private mint (Washington Mint almost certainly) and contains a “COPY” stamp on the reverse per legal requirements since it exactly replicates a US mint design, namely the American Silver Eagle with the Walking Liberty design on the obverse. Beware of any US Mint-designed bullion coins lacking that designation. The oversized 2 1/2 diameter shows that the minter was especially careful to not falsely present their silver round as a US Mint product. But the silver goodies remain the same! The “JM” you see on the reverse is not a mint mark. It is the initials of John Mercanti, the U. Mint engraver who designed the heraldic-eagle reverse used on the Type 1 American Silver Eagle.
